After tons of research, we discovered that getting our shots in Bangkok would be much better; and by better we mean more gentle on our wallet, than having them done in Tokyo.
So here we are staying in Silom, BKK close by the Snake farm QSMI (Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute) where travel vaccinations happen.
We got there at opening hour 8:30 after a pretty bad breakfast served in our “hotel“.
After taking counsel with the medical consultant, we decided on getting the most important vaccines that we would be needing in our world tour.
First round: Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis, and Yellow Fever.
The vaccines come with their seringue included. Payment is in cash only and the whole procedure was easy breezy. Just get ready to feel some local bruising, Thank you Yellow Fever!
Round 2: A week later, getting a second dose of Rabies, Typhoid and Hepatitis A ( the priciest shot so far).
Our second time around was not as easy and breezy though. Bruising felt on all areas while stomach got queasy for quite a bit(about a couple of hours actually). But that’s just me because I’m human. My partner in crime is another kind of species so apparently he was fine.
Round 3:
Today, since we had an easy schedule, we decided to go a bit later to the clinic to get our third and last dose of rabies shot as well as a Tetanus/Diphtheria one.
DON’T!
The lines are longer, the lunch break is from 12:00-13:00, and the lines don’t stop growing. We highly recommend going first thing in the morning.
I had a much better experience this time. The nurse was very skillful. I didn’t feel a thing. My partner, on the other hand, wasn’t lucky under the hand of the same nurse. Weird, huh? But he did say he “forgot” to breath? Apparently, breathing deeply right when it happens help with the pain? It worked for me.
Symptoms weren’t so bad except for the usual bruising. Hopefully, there will be no problem this time around.
Now, we are officially ready to get to a new continent.
